Diaa Allam is a Dubai-based artist celebrated for his innovative approach to Arabic calligraphy. His work has garnered international recognition, including a nomination for the UNESCO-Sharjah Award in 2024 for his efforts in perpetuating Arabic culture through modern techniques.

“I have always been fascinated by the flexibility of the Arabic language and its letters,” Allam explains. “Growing up in a time when so much of our daily life has Western influences, I find it important and beautiful to perpetuate the beauty of our own culture while still making sure it appeals to newer generations.”

Allam’s inspiration stems from nature and human values. “I am deeply inspired by nature and its movements—from sea to sand, trees and animals,” he shares. “I also make it a very important point to spread positive human values, so most of my artwork’s messaging has to do with themes such as generosity, kindness, understanding, acceptance.”

Regarding his featured pieces, Allam hopes they resonate with their new owners. “I hope that through the universal language of art we can remind ourselves that all of us are humans. All of us share this beautiful planet together, and we can all connect through beauty and can create peace and harmony.”

When asked which of his creations holds the most personal meaning, Allam points to “Ehsan.” “Not only is it a key piece in my ‘Layers’ collection, which has been a breakthrough in my art style, I also hold its message as a driving value for my life: ‘Perfection is unattainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.'”
