A stunt shotgun used in the production of the 2010 horror film The Wolfman. Brought back to his family’s estate to investigate the death of his brother, Shakespearean actor Lawrence Talbot (Benicio del Toro) finds himself bitten by a werewolf. Suffering fits and terrible dreams he eventually recovers, but it’s not long before the darkness within him is unleashed.
This shotgun, cast from a rare classic Holland and Holland “Paradox” hunting gun, was the personal weapon of Sir John Talbot (Anthony Hopkins), Lawrence’s estranged father. Often kept loaded with silver shells, the shotgun ends up in the hands of Lawrence as he hunts his werewolf father down, only for John to reveal that the shells long had their powder removed.
Made of soft rubber with a metal armature for stability, this weapon is a stunt version that would have been used for fight sequences and when a hero version of the shotgun was not necessary for a shot. Intricately detailed, the shotgun features a distinctive lock handle beneath the trigger guard, while the sides of the weapon have an intricate array of swirling designs running along the weapon’s metalwork and stock. The metalwork is finished to appear like polished steel while the wood stock is finished in a deep, dark brown.
The shotgun has some very light wear to the sights, hammers and triggers, but besides these minor flaws the weapon remains in a good production-used condition, measuring 110cm (43.5“) in length.
