Our expert's notes
A Mariano Diaz hand-drawn Helen of Troy (Diane Kruger) King Menelaus's queen at court costume concept from the production of Wolfgang Petersen's 2004 historical war epic Troy.
The costumes in Troy were designed by Academy Award and Oscar-nominated costume designer Bob Ringwood and rendered by concept artist Mariano Diaz in graphite. Labelled ‘52’, this costume design concept has been hand-drawn on thin layout paper. It depicts Helen dressed lasciviously in a sleeved Chiton dress with tassels and embellished shoulder drapes, stacked necklaces, hooped earrings and an ornate headdress with a diamond-shaped gem dangling on her forehead. Diaz’s autograph is hand-signed in pencil at the bottom of the illustration. This costume concept differs slightly from the final design seen on screen.
The artwork exhibits minor creasing, smudges and small yellow dot stains from production use, and the edges have been cut unevenly. Otherwise, it remains in very good overall condition.
