A pair of model heads used in the production of Richard Lester’s 1980 classic superhero movie Superman II.

When Superman (Christopher Reeve) detonates a large bomb in space it results in the release of the nefarious Kryptonian General Zod (Terence Stamp) from the Phantom Zone, who uses his new-found powers to conquer Earth. Worse still, Superman has given up his powers to be with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder). Can he recover his powers and save Earth before it’s too late?

These heads can be seen when the Kryptonian convicts Zod, Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O’Halloran) decide to mould Earth in their own image, using their heat vision to re-sculpt Mount Rushmore to show their heads instead. Created by the legendary special effects and make-up artist Stuart Freeborn, the heads are made of plaster and would have been part of a larger model set which would have been filmed on for visual effects purposes. The highly detailed pieces are very cleanly cast with impeccably sculpted facial detail and paint applied to the faces to make them look more like the stone of Mount Rushmore.

In a very good production-used condition, the heads are presented on a custom-made light-up display featuring the film’s logo, a short description and a bespoke stand allowing the heads to be shown at their best.
