A mechanical cocoon shell used in the 2010 Adrien Brody sci-fi thriller Splice. The shell can be seen in the film as genetic engineers Clive Nicoli (Brody) and Elsa Kast (Sarah Polley) splice together DNA from different animals, making hybrids, but in order to speed up the process add human DNA, and the creature is born from this shell. The small cocoon, measuring approximately 7" x 15" (18cm x 38cm) is an egg-shaped piece made of silicone and features two long tails at either end, one of which still has the original cables running out. The cables, which were used to control tail movement in order to bring life to the piece, are labeled: "Tail up," "Tail down," "Tail left," and "Tail right." The piece has some slight silicone cracking on one tail, but remains in good condition.
