Tony the Horse’s Head from the Oscar-winning Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained. Sold into slavery away from his wife, the African American Django (Jamie Foxx) is offered his freedom in exchange for information by Dr Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a bounty hunter who takes the freed slave on as his apprentice in the ways of justice. Tony is the name of the horse that Django (Jamie Foxx) rides throughout the film. Tony was actually played by Foxx’s own horse, Cheetah. This is a stand-in head that would have been used for lighting purposes during the production.
The head is crafted of foam rubber over a base of soft foam and a plate of acrylic inserted for support. All the features of the horse are sculpted out of the dense foam. It has been painted tan with brown spots, and is covered in tiny pieces of hair glued onto the foam. There is hair inserted into a slot on the back of the neck to make a mane and extra hair glued on to make the mane fuller. The dark eyes are made of plastic and glued into the sockets. A metal pipe connects the head to a large wood base.
This beautiful horse head is in great condition.
