A German hip flask gifted to John Lennon on his 20th birthday by his close friend Stuart Sutcliffe. During the Beatles' Hamburg era, Sutcliffe played bass for the band, but left to pursue an art career before his untimely death in 1962. Lennon later re-gifted the flask to Geoff Mohammed, one of his friends from art college, who sold the flask during the mid-1960s.

The flask features two metal cups in a circular holder on either side of the lid, and a brown leather covering with the inscription "Fur Kaiser John Zu Seinem Geburtstag 9. Okt 1960 Von Stu", which translates as "For Emperor John On His Birthday 9 Oct 1960, By Stu". Adhered to the back is a paper inscription detailing its history. The lot displays minor wear and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from a previous owner. Dimensions: 4.5 cm x 10 cm x 14 cm (1 3/4" x 4" x 5 1/2")
