This lot will be auctioned on Friday, November 4th. An original prototype poster issued by Capitol Records in 1966 to promote The Beatles' ninth album Yesterday and Today. This poster features a black-and-white image of the album's highly controversial, original "butcher" cover image. It shows all four members in butcher's smocks surrounded by dismembered baby doll components and raw meat. The cover was quickly deemed inappropriate and changed to a tamer image of the Fab Four posed around a travel trunk. As a result, stores were advised not to display posters featuring the "butcher" photo, making them incredibly rare.

This example features handwritten annotations along the top and bottom, relating to the piece's installation at a Sam Goody store. The poster displays signs of discolouration from age and small tears around its edges. Dimensions: 43 cm x 28 cm (17" x 11")
