A Los Angeles Chronicle newspaper cover headlined "Toon Kills Man" from Robert Zemeckis' Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Upon closer inspection of a newspaper featuring a photograph of Jessica Rabbit (Kathleen Turner) and Marvin Acme (Stubby Kaye), Detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) spotted Acme's Last Will and Testament sticking out of his jacket pocket, proving Acme did in fact have a will and making Valiant suspect that Roger Rabbit (Charles Fleischer) may have been framed to cover up the real reason for Acme's murder.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a critical and commercial success. The second-highest-grossing film of 1988, the film was, at the time of its release, Disney's biggest opening weekend in the company's history and the then 20th-highest-grossing film of all time. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards®, winning four, including Best Visual Effects and a Special Achievement Award for Richard Williams' animation direction.
This custom-made newspaper cover originated from an Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) effects crew member. It most notably features an early design for Jessica Rabbit, differing from her final appearance in the film. It is dated "August 15, 1947" with images of Acme and the Rabbits printed in black-and-white beneath the subheader "Marvin Acme Murdered at the Hands of Jealous Rabbit" and the tagline "All the News - All the Truth" printed on top. Additional filler text is printed on the bottom of the cover, while the cover's reverse is blank. The cover exhibits extensive staining, small edge tears, and discoloration from production handling and age. Dimensions: 22.5" x 17" (57.25 cm x 43.25 cm)
Estimate: $6,000 - 12,000
