This lot will be sold on Wednesday 2nd December (day 2 of the auction.) Lots 464-913 will be sold on day 2 (lots 1-463 will be sold on day 1). The auction will begin at 2:00 pm GMT. A set of hand-painted costume designs from the production of Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller War of the Worlds. It comprises five pages of costume designs for Ray (Tom Cruise), which focus heavily on the jacket Ray wore throughout the film, although one page also features his daughter Rachel (Dakota Fanning).

The five designs are rendered in pencil and gouache paint on white card. Each page features the handwritten film title, actor and character, and is stamped "Designed by Joanna Johnston". Two of the pieces are signed "RR '04". Robin Richesson was a costume illustrator on the production and worked closely with Johnston. The designs are accompanied by a still of Cruise during filming, and a magazine cut-out also featuring a picture of Cruise on set. The pieces display only minor wear and come with protective plastic sleeves and a letter of authenticity from a senior crew member. Dimensions (concept art): 40.5 cm x 30.5 cm (16" x 12"); (photo still): 20 cm x 25.5 cm (8" x 10")
