A Ray Harryhausen hand-drawn sketch of a cowboy chasing an Ornithomimus from the production of Jim O'Connolly's fantasy Western The Valley of Gwangi. This lot comes from Harryhausen's personal collection.

The artwork is a sketch depicting a cowboy chasing an Ornithomimus. This creature was used by Harryhausen as a way of introducing the film's titular Allosaurus in a dramatic fashion: the Ornithomimus is chased into the jaws of Gwangi, who then chases the cowboys. The sketch is rendered in pencil on tracing paper. The paper exhibits some minor discolouration from age, and a tear on one edge that does not disrupt the image. Dimensions: 49 cm x 60 cm (19.25" x 23.75")

This lot comes from the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a collection of items from the long and illustrious career of special effects and animation legend Ray Harryhausen. Proceeds from this auction will assist with the Foundation's future projects, including the ongoing preservation of Harryhausen's creature collection.
