Sciopticon Magic Lantern with Revolving Discs and Transport Chest

Stock #96802

A Sciopticon magic lantern with revolving discs and transport chest. Crafted by the Pettibone Manufacturing Company, the Sciopticon magic lantern with revolving disc was patented in 1888 and was used as such by projecting an image painted on to a glass slide by using a particular lens to focus candle light or electric light when it came later.

The lantern is made of metal and is mounted onto a wood base supported by six curved brass rods. The set includes a total of four revolving discs that feature ten slots for slides. Each disc features an array of hand-painted glass slides with various drawings. The set also includes the lantern's original carrying case. The case shows some signs of wear from age, but the set remains in overall very good condition.
