A Scorponok tailpiece from Michael Bay’s 2007 sci-fi action film Transformers.

After their base was attacked, the surviving soldiers trekked through the Qatari desert, tracked by the Decepticon known as Scorponok, who ambushed them outside a small village.

The arachnoid robot was brought to life on screen almost entirely using CGI, with the only physical components being the head and tail. Special effects company KNB EFX created a physical tailpiece for the scene in which the tail was recovered and then examined aboard an aircraft, where it momentarily reanimated and attacked the soldiers once again.

This component comprises a resin shell, finished to imitate metal, which has been filled with plaster around an internal metal rod. The word ‘Top’ has been handwritten on one end in black pen with a directional arrow. It exhibits some pain wear and general scuffs and scratches from production use but overall remains in good condition.
