A Winged Demon Costume from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s apocalypse comedy, This Is the End. In the film, the principle cast of comedians play themselves caught in the middle of the Rapture. This costume was made for a stand-in suit performer to wear during the sequence where a winged demon attacks Craig Robinson. The character was later reimagined and created primarily as a computer generated character, possibly using this suit’s performance as reference.
This demon suit is made primarily of cast foam that has been attached to a cloth under suit. The foam latex is very thick in some areas, giving any performer wearing the piece a defined chest and small hunch back. The sculpt of the suit is incredibly detailed, with wrinkled details on the skin and a multi-colored professional paint job. Patches of grey hair on the chest, elbows, and arms have been hand punched to look as realistic as possible. A piece of hair-punched fabric is attached to the groin and hides a concealed zipper. The suit features two hidden zippers along the back as well as a small finger hold and hole in the foam where a hand is meant to grab and pull the suit on, as this piece is designed to be put on with the help of several dressers. Multiple clasps are attached around the neck which were meant to attach to a collar piece. There is slight damage to the upper thighs on the back of both legs from ware.
The head mask is made of a similar foam latex and is made to be worn on top of the suit. The mask features resin horns on top of the head. Small areas of the mask are made of a silk like material and painted to match the rest. These areas act as eye and air holes for the performer wearing the piece. The inside of the mask features a fiberglass skull cap labeled for creature performer Carey Jones, who portrayed this and several other demons in the film. The cap is also labeled as “Predators”, indicating the fiberglass cap was likely recycled from use in the 2011 Predators film.
Aside from this light wear, the costume remains in great condition.
