A full, fourth draft script, dated October 24, 1978, and production binder from Irvin Kershner’s science fiction epic, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The script’s cover page lists the film’s title as “Star Wars: Episode Five – The Empire Strikes Back” and is credited to Leigh Brackett and Larry Kasdan, based on a novel by George Lucas. This script, though a later draft, differs in various ways from the final film. Most notably, a saga-altering reveal is absent from the fight between Luke and Darth Vader at the end of the film. Neither Luke’s parentage nor his injuries are present in this version of the script.
The script is printed on a combination of white and blue paper, with each page individually stamped in red with the film’s production number. According to its last page, this script is made up of 163 separate pages. The binder consists of two, sturdy covers finished with faux red leather. The inside cover page features the name “Bill, Welch”, the construction manager on the film. Due to the size of the cover’s binding, the script pages are currently loose. In the binder, this script measures 13” x 9” (33cm x 23cm) and is in great, production used condition.
