A hand-drawn tauntaun stop-motion armature drawing and reference photo from Irvin Kershner’s sci-fi classic Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Phil Tippett is credited as stop-motion animator for the film.

This lot consists of a sheet of drafting on heavy paper, dated 2-5-79 with revisions on 2-29-79. The artwork shows the side view of a tauntaun with its interior mechanics illustrated inside. The drawing is done in black and red pencil. The black ink outline was drawn by Phil Tippett, while Tom St. Amand added the armature markups in red. One of the drawings in this lot was published in the book Star Wars Chronicles. There is also a piece of vellum paper with hand-drawn sketches and diagrams that have been torn away. Also included is a reference photo of a completed armature.

The lot shows wear to the paper due to production use and age, and remains in good condition. Dimensions: 18” x 24” (46 cm x 61 cm)
