USS Enterprise NCC-1701 decals from Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek: The Original Series. Two filming model miniatures of the Enterprise, a three foot version and an 11-foot version, were constructed for the series and finished with various decals. Production created multiple decal sheets to replace the decals anytime they became scratched or damaged while the models were on the Howard Anderson visual effects stage on the Desilu Studios lot from 1966 to 1969.
These four sheets of transfer-type decals for both of the model miniatures originated from the collection of series post-production office manager Craig O. Thompson. Following production, they were sent to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where they were flattened and preserved during the restoration of one of the Enterprise miniatures.
The decals read "U.S.S. Enterprise" and "NCC-1701" with smaller fine-print labels reading "Nitrogen Purge Reducer Valve Access," "Explosive Bolt Access," "Radio Compass Sense Antenna," "Press. Regulator Static Vent," and "Hatch Access," designed to be applied throughout the hull. Several decals are reversed: as only the starboard side of the model was finished, the starboard side would be shot with reversed decals and the footage mirrored to create shots of the port side. The decal sheets were taped into larger folded sheets of paper during preservation, but still exhibit scuffs, tears, and stains from age. Dimensions: (each) 22.25" x 28.25" (72 cm x 56.75 cm)
Estimate: $5,000 - 10,000
