USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D pyrotechnic model miniature components from Star Trek: The Next Generation. In the Season 5 episode "Cause and Effect," the Enterprise repeatedly collided with the USS Bozeman while stuck in a time loop and exploded.
Rather than superimposing footage of an explosion over footage of one of the intact studio models as was often done for sequences involving starships exploding, it was decided that this episode necessitated new footage of specially-built "pyro" models of the Enterprise D exploding. Model maker and special effects artist Greg Jein created several pre-scored breakaway models from the molds of the famous four-foot studio model of the Enterprise D, which were then filled with explosives and blown apart on camera.
