A gladiatorial helmet used in the acclaimed Starz TV series Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena. Chronicling the bloody history of the house and ludus of Lentulus Batiatus (John Hannah), the story follows the rise of Oenomaus (Peter Mensah) to the rank of Doctore, the depravity of Batiatus’ wife Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) and the trials of Crixus (Manu Bennett), Ashur (Nick E Tarabay) and the deadly Gannicus (Dustin Clare).
This helmet can be seen in episode four, “Beneath The Mask”, being used by an opposing gladiator as he fights in a group contest against the Syrians Ashur and Dagan (Shane Rangi) in their first fight in the arena. As the gladiator is about to kill Ashur, Dagan catches him unawares and sends him to the ground, allowing Ashur to move in and bash in his helmet, killing the wounded warrior and claiming the kill as his first in the arena.

The helmet is made of vinyl with a paint finish made to replicate the look of worn bronze. Made with a hinged faceplate, the helmet has a large crest that runs from the forehead to the back of the neck, with a peak running all the way round. The whole helmet has been intentionally distressed to give it the appearance of a helmet well-used in the arena and, as it is a practical effects helmet, it is filled with blood tubes and has a cracked shell to allow for blood to flow from it as Ashur makes the kill for his first victory in the arena.

The helmet remains in an excellent production-used condition with only minor wear from its time spent on the production and storage, and comes beautifully displayed on a battery-operated light-up display base featuring the show’s title in red and white. The imposing display measures approximately 56cm (22”) in height.
