Many classic American movies were released in Japan during the allied occupation after WWII. These releases can be very difficult to date but we can narrow it down for this poster when we look at the stamps for Universal International (c. 1946) and the Motion Picture Export Association (c. 1947). These two companies were responsible for the distribution of US films which included Son of Frankenstein and other Universal Monster Movies. The artwork is based on the US One-Sheet design from 1939 using a similar pose for "The Monster" (Boris Karloff) but with different character art for "Frankenstein" (Basil Rathbone) and "Ygor" (Bela Lugosi). This is an incredibly scarce poster and is possibly the only example ever to come to market. We can find no other record of this poster at auction except the example we have on offer here.

Condition: Very Good to Excellent

Unrestored with a single horizontal foldlline. There is edge and handling wear but with no visible paper loss. Tiny pinhole-sized scuff in the centre of the image. Despite this, the image is unaffected which is quite incredible given its age and the very thin paper.
