Captain Malcolm Reynolds' (Nathan Fillion) stunt "Liberty Hammer" pistol from Joss Whedon's Serenity. Mal carried his signature Moses Brothers Self-Defense Engine Frontier Model B revolver, known as the "Liberty Hammer," with him throughout the film as his primary weapon.
Based on the firearms created by the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company, the Liberty Hammer is a Taurus Model 85 revolver covered in a brass casting to give it a futuristic appearance. Additionally, it is depicted as an semi-automatic pistol and has two firing systems. For the film, the weapon went under a new design that had the magazine moved to the bottom, the side plates enlarged, and a spring-loaded rear sight added. Serenity is a direct continuation of the Firefly show and features the same cast. Despite underperforming at the box office, Serenity received positive reviews from critics and several awards, including a Hugo Award for "Best Dramatic Presentation - Long Form," and a Nebula Award for "Best Script." SFX magazine cited Serenity as the best science fiction movie of all time, and Empire magazine ranked it 383 out of 500 on its Greatest Films of All Time list. A collection of Firefly and the Serenity film were added to the ISS entertainment library by astronaut Steven Swanson in 2007.
