A production made miniature Starbug model from the BBC comedy TV series Red Dwarf. The green insect-like spaceship was the meandering crew’s only home for much of the later series (after Lister ‘loses’ Red Dwarf by forgetting where he parked it…) and is an instantly recognisable and much loved part of the series.
This particular model was specially made for the series seven episode “Tikka To Ride”, specifically for the final scene after Lister loads up on thousands of vindaloos and poppadoms and Rimmer jettisons the cargo bay section of the ship into space, leaving Lister drifting off with only his curries for company. Sadly before the model was completed the production decided that a CGI approach would be better (which was considered a poor decision by many) and so was never completed and given it’s distinctive space-worn paint effect.

Made from moulded plastic in two sections for the 'split' and accessorised using the ‘kit bashing’ method, it even has a transformer’s head on the engine section! It has had the red and black lines and ‘Starbug 1’ stuck on, including a clear screen to the cockpit, the model has since been fitted with a pair of replica fins and legs to support it and bring it towards its original intended glory. Measuring 40cm (15.75”) long, 26cm (10.25”) tall, 35cm (14”) wide it is in a good condition with some minor scuffs from storage.
