Set in post-war Britain, Passport to Pimlico was one of the classic comedies made for the famous Ealing Studios in London and was released in 1949, the year that many believed was the peak time for Ealing comedies. This particular design was by Sydney John Woods, an important figure in establishing the success of Ealing's poster creations and who worked with the Studios for 16 years. He was known for having an array of contacts and would often persuade other artists to produce illustrations for Ealing. For example, on this Quad, Woods enlisted renowned cartoon illustrator Nicolas Bentley to create the fun police officers drawing seen in the centre. Any paper from Ealing Studios has become highly sought-after, and the Quad for this particular title is one of the scarcest.
