Jim Preston's (Chris Pratt) screen-matched, light-up distressed Avalon spacesuit from Morten Tyldum's sci-fi film Passengers. After being awakened from suspended animation decades too soon onboard a spaceship, mechanical engineer Preston wore his suit while he attempted to repair the ship and save the lives of its passengers. Dstressing on the cuirass matches to the scene following the repair of the reactor vent.
Passengers was nominated for two awards, at the 89th Academy Awards®, including Best Production Design, a category in which it was also nominated for a Saturn Award and won an Art Directors Guild Award. The unique designs for the film's space suits were created by award-winning French costume designer Jany Temime, who also designed the space suits for Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity.
This costume consists of a grey plastic, fibreglass, and metal helmet; a matching oxygen regulator chest and back piece marked "CHRIS PRATT BURNED" with electrical wiring in the interior and shoulder accent replicas fabricated based on the production original accents; a grey neoprene neckpiece with fastening strips, a grey polyester and neoprene jacket marked "CHRIS PRATT HERO #1" and matching trousers marked "CHRIS PRATT HERO #2" with rubber and metal accents containing wiring on the interior; a grey belt marked "CHARRED" with plastic and metal embellishments and fastening strips, a pair of gloves marked "C" with plastic and metal accents and wired interiors; and boots marked "X" with wired interiors. The spacesuit is currently dressed with replica shoulder pieces but the originals are also included in the lot.
The entire lot has been intentionally distressed with charring and scuff marks by production. Following production, wiring inset on the armour, jacket, trousers, gloves, and boots designed to activate lighting elements when plugged into a power source underwent sympathetic repair, as did the oxygen regulator. The suit exhibits additional signs of wear from use, including various scuffs and scratches.
