Mako Mori’s (Rinko Kikuchi) Drift Hanbo Staff from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 mega monster movie Pacific Rim. In the film, a race of monsters, called ‘Kaiju,’ terrorize earth, so humans build a team of massive robots, called ‘Jaegers,’ to battle the monsters and save the world. In order to control the Jaegers, two pilots merge their minds, called “drifting.” The “drift” causes a series of flashbacks, all with muted color tones. In Mako’s (Rinko Kikuchi) flashback, she can be seen receiving a hanbo staff like this as a gift.
The staff is made of one long cylindrical piece of wood that has been painted grey to match the aesthetic of the “drift” sequence. The staff comes in a light grey cloth bag with a rope tie to close the top. This piece shows some wear due to production use and storage but is in overall good condition. This piece measures 50” x 1” ( 127 cm x 3 cm).
