A stop-motion Martian puppet from the production of Tim Burton's sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks! Based on the Topps trading card series, the film saw Martian invaders terrorising humanity during their conquest of Earth.
Burton's initial idea was to use stop-motion animation for the Martians, and several detailed puppets were constructed. However, stop-motion proved too complex, causing the movie's budget to escalate, and Burton was convinced to use CG animation created by ILM instead. The puppets were ultimately scanned and used as a primary reference for the final digital animation.
The puppet comprises an internal metal armature covered in foam latex skin, with an airbrushed green-and-brown finish. White acrylic eyes with red pupils and teeth adorn the face. The foam latex exhibits very minor deterioration, small patches of paint wear, and minor cracking above the eyes. Considering its age, the puppet remains in excellent overall condition, but care should be taken when handling due to its fragile nature.
