Guinevere's (Keira Knightley) red cloak and tunic from the historical drama King Arthur.
A retelling of Arthurian legend, the story charts the life and travails of Arturius Castus (Clive Owen), commander of a brave band of warriors as they fight to protect the Britons left behind during the Roman withdrawal from Britannia from the rampaging Saxons.
Guinevere the Woad wore her cloak throughout the film, from when Arthur first discovers her amongst the Pagans captured by Marius Honorius (Ken Stott) through the scene where Lancelot (Ioan Gruffudd) watches her bathe and later when fighting the Saxons on the ice. She wore her ragged tunic in earlier scenes until the bathing scene.
The costume consists of a long, hooded cloak, dark grey tunic and light grey underdress.
Guinevere’s cloak is made from blend of cotton and synthetic fibres in an off-red colour - the garment has pleated shoulders and is trimmed with a simple peach and pale blue embroidered pattern that extends up around the hood. It hangs to the floor and remains in great condition.
The tunic is made from rough, hessian-like material with simple orange stitching. It is considerably torn and stained for production, with numerous holes and rips. ‘Kiera Knightley’ is handwritten on a label at the neckline. Made from a light grey cotton, the drab underdress is in similar condition, reflecting the torturous conditions Guinevere and her Pagan companions were kept in.
Aside from its intentional distressing, the costume remains in overall good condition.
Materials: Man-Made Woven Fibres.
