A set of costume design artwork from Danny Cannon's 1995 comic-book adaptation Judge Dredd.
In a dystopian future, Joseph Dredd (Sylvester Stallone), the most famous Judge, is convicted for a crime he did not commit and must face his murderous counterpart.
This artwork details the development of costumes for Dredd, the Judge Hunters and the Cursed Earth’s Angel Gang and would have been used by the various departments to help visualise the look of humanity in the late 21st century. The set is comprised of an original concept painting of Dredd in acrylics on paper, showing Dredd in his standard issue trousers, vest and boots. The Dredd painting is accompanied by two production facsimiles of concepts showing Dredd in his full armour.
Along with the Dredd artwork is a concept sketch in pencil on lined paper of Chief Justice Fargo (Max von Sydow) heading out on the Long Walk, an original concept painting in acrylics of the Angel Gang and a sheet with swatches for three pf the gang’s members – Pa (Scott Wilson), Junior (Ewen Bremner) and Fink (renamed Link in the film, played by Phil Smeeton). The set is rounded off with an original concept painting of a Judge Hunter, outfitted in black armour with a full-face helmet and a pistol on his hip.
Well-kept after use on the production, this set of artwork remains in an excellent condition with only very minor creasing and pinholes present from use on the production. The painting of the Angel Gang is the largest, measuring 54.5cm x 40.5cm (21.5” x 16”), with the paintings of Dredd and the Judge Hunter measuring 41.5cm x 29cm (16.5” x 11.5”).
