A collection of tapes from the recording of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's 1967 B-side "The Stars That Play with Laughing Sam's Dice".
This lot comes from the collection of Patricia "Trixie" Sullivan, personal assistant to Mike Jeffery between 1966 and 1973.
The song was first recorded at Huston Studios in LA in June 1967 and completed in New York in July 1967. The lot comprises four tapes. Tape "46" is a backing track featuring some rewinds and a subtle "1,2,3,4" at the beginning.
The tapes numbered "36," "37," and "38" are also backing tracks without Hendrix vocals. They vary slightly in track length and composition, therefore each tape is potentially a unique alternative instrumental mix of this rare song. Backing tracks were instrumental-only tapes taken directly from the original multi-track tapes. These were often used when bands performed on television shows such as Top of the Pops, where bands would mime. Interestingly this song was never performed or broadcast on TV, making these tapes rare.
The tapes are accompanied by their original boxes which feature handwritten labelling.
The boxes remain in a fragile condition and have some discolouration and staining. Dimensions (largest box): 28 cm x 27.5 cm x 2 cm (11" x 10.75" x 0.75")
