A master tape featuring four unreleased demo recordings by Jimi Hendrix and its original hand-annotated box. Arguably one of the most important items of Jimi Hendrix memorabilia to be offered for sale. It is believed that this master tape has never been seen or heard publicly before, making this an incredibly rare opportunity to own a unique piece of rock music history.
This lot comes from the collection of Patricia "Trixie" Sullivan, personal assistant to Mike Jeffery between 1966 and 1973.
The Ampex tape, which includes seven minutes of audio, features four unreleased demo recordings by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The songs on the tape are "Stone Free," "Up From the Skies," "Ain't No Telling," and "Little Miss Lover." None of these songs have ever surfaced, been circulated or have even been known to exist. These recordings are very different in sound and are generally shorter than the more common examples. It has been said that they sound better than the originals.
The 0.6cm-width tape comes on a plastic reel with a green "40" sticker. The reel comes presented in an Amprex branded box labelled "40." The titles of three songs, "Up From the Skies," "Ain't No Telling," and "Little Miss Lover" are handwritten on the back of the box in red ink by Hendrix, who added the annotation "Rough Demo Tape." The plastic reel exhibits light scratching and marks and the box exhibits general edge wear and marks. Dimensions: (box) 13.25 cm x 13.25 cm x 1.75 cm (5.25" x 5.25 " x 0.75")
