Mechanical hands and baby ape head from Hugh Hudson’s Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan Lord of the Apes. Tarzan interacts with several apes during the first half of the film. This lot includes ten mechanical hands, a baby ape puppet head, a baby ape puppet armature, and five pairs of ape forearm padding. The hands are made of a thick fiberglass palm with hinged metal fingers that automatically fold through a pulley system when an actor would close their fingers. The head is made of a resin skull and sculpted teeth. The head features two plastic tubes likely meant for an effect on screen and a single puppet rod with a defunct inner cable control. Made of assorted metals, the armature features several hinged joints. The forearm padding pieces are all made of stuffed nylon material. The metal pieces show some rust from age and the hands and baby ape pieces show some dried foam latex that still remains from production leaving the lot in overall poor condition. Dimensions (head): 6” x 4” x 4” (15.25 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm); dimensions (each hand):11” x 5” x 2” (28 cm x 12.75 cm x 5 cm)
