A Ray Harryhausen hand-drawn sketch of a centaur in a cave from the production of Gordon Hessler's fantasy adventure The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. This lot comes from the Harryhausen's personal collection.

The sketch depicts the sequence where the centaur confronts Margiana (Caroline Munro). This creature was conceived by Harryhausen while writing the film's screenplay, and he adapted it into a cyclopean centaur to relate it to the cyclops he created for 1958's The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.

The drawing is rendered in pencil on tracing paper, with "March 1971" handwritten across the bottom of the page. The paper is torn at the edge but the tear does not disrupt the image. Dimensions: 38 cm x 50 cm (15" x 19.75")

This lot comes from the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a collection of over items from the long and illustrious career of special effects and animation legend Ray Harryhausen'. Proceeds from this auction will assist with the Foundation's future projects, including the ongoing preservation of Harryhausen's creature collection.
