Proximo's (Oliver Reed) Silk Under Tunic from Ridley Scott's 2000 historical epic, Gladiator. In the film, Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russel Crowe) is betrayed by Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) who slaughters the emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and Maximus' family upon learning that he will not receive the crown. Presumed dead, Maximus returns to Rome as a gladiator in order to seek revenge against the self appointed emperor, Commodus. This tunic can be seen worn by Proximo, who guides Maximus upon bringing him to Rome as a Gladiator.
Made from silk, this burgundy tunic has simple golden stitching around the neck, and features a ornate fabric strips below the arm sockets on both sides of the garment. Included with this tunic are a pair of production tags that indicate this piece was worn in 'scene 100' and in 'Rome.' Due to production use and age, this tunic features minor wear including some missing threading on the floral fabric just under the right arm (see photos), and also has notable dust and dirt near the bottom from being used on set. This costume remains in otherwise very good worn condition.
