A sword sheath from Ridley Scott’s 2000 historical roman epic, Gladiator. In the film, betrayed Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe) seeks revenge against Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and returns to Rome as a slave and gladiator. The Roman Cavalry used sheaths to carry their swords as they prepared for battle in Germania.

This sheath is made of wood, wrapped in a dark red canvas and features a distressed gunmetal metal casing at the top. Rings attached to this casing connect to a brown leather strap, allowing the sheath to be worn when not in combat. The sheath exhibits scuffing and discolouration from production use and rusting from age and storage.
