This lot will be sold on Tuesday, 1st December (day 1 of the auction.) Lots 1-463 will be sold on day 1 (lots 464-913 will be sold on day 2). The auction will begin at 2:00 pm GMT. Maximus' (Russell Crowe) stunt arena shield from Ridley Scott's Oscar®-winning historical epic Gladiator. Maximus used his shield in his fight at the Colosseum against Tigris of Gaul (Sven-Ole Thorsen). The shield is made of biscuit foam and hand painted to resemble tarnished metal. It is decorated with a ring of raised motifs of gladiators in combat and wild animals on the front, a foreshadowing of the events to come in the arena. The reverse of the shield is red and features padded straps wrapped with leather.

The shield has wear from production use and age and has minor damage in places on the front and the back. Some sympathetic restoration has been performed. Dimensions: 63 cm x 58 cm x 10 cm (24 3/4" x 22 3/4" x 4")
