Maximus Decimus Meridius' (Russell Crowe) arena shield from Ridley Scott's Gladiator. Maximus carried his shield as he was challenged to fight against Tigris of Gaul by Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) in an arena filled with tigers.

Gladiator was one of the most successful films of 2000, placing frequently on lists such as Empire's 100 Best Movies of All Time and winning Academy Awards® for Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, Best Costume Design, and Best Actor for Crowe. The film's global popularity inspired a long-gestating sequel, Gladiator II, which was released to significant acclaim in 2024.

Made of dense rubber, the round shield is hand-painted in silver-color tones to resemble tarnished metal. A decorative ring featuring raised motifs of gladiators in combat and wild animals adorns the front. The reverse is colored red with strips of padding wrapped in leather adhered to the back for comfort. This lot exhibits notable loss of adhesion on the leather padding and notable wear and scuffs to the front of the shield. Dimensions: 23.25" x 23.25" x 2.5" (59 cm x 59 cm x 6.5 cm)
