A gladiator's "Battle of Carthage" shield from Ridley Scott's Academy Award-winning historical epic Gladiator.

Maximus (Russell Crowe) and his fellow gladiators defended themselves with shields during the re-enactment of the Battle of Carthage.

The shield is made of rigid card and covered in decorated dark blue canvas, with red canvas on the rear. A folded metal trim finished in faux bronze runs around the edge, and attached to the front is a shield boss made of plastic and finished in steel-coloured paint. A wooden handle is attached to the rear. Dimensions: 22 cm x 70 cm x 101.5 cm (8.75" x 27.5" x 40")
