Commodus' (Joaquin Phoenix) Cape from Ridley Scott's 2000 historical epic, Gladiator. In the film, Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russel Crowe) is betrayed by Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) who slaughters the emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and Maximus' family upon learning that he will not receive the crown. Presumed dead, Maximus returns to Rome as a gladiator in order to seek revenge against the self appointed emperor, Commodus. This cape can be seen worn in Commodus' quarters in the city of Rome and includes a wardrobe tag indicating that it was used in scene 68.
Made from satin, this sash-like cape features a brown exterior and a gold colored interior. The hem has been decorated with a feather pattern that has been stitched on using a thick golden colored thread. Also included is a golden colored braided cord that was used to fasten the cape to Commodus' wardrobe. Measuring approximately 48" (122cm) in length, this cape features minor wear from production use with a few broken threads, however it remains in overall very good worn condition.
