An original production-used elf costume from Tommy O'Haver’s 2004 fantasy comedy Ella Enchanted.

Given the ‘gift of obedience’ at birth by spiteful fairy Mandy, Ella (Anne Hathaway) must do whatever she is told – even if she doesn’t want to. Ella conceals her curse as best she can, but when her father remarries wealthy socialite Dame Olga (Joanna Lumley), things become difficult.

This elf costume, and others like it, were used to dress the actors who populated the elf village and greeted Ella and Slannen the elf (Aiden McArdle) with a rousing song and dance number. The piece consists of three parts, a knee-length patterned green dress, a green jacket, decorated with olive-green tassels along the bottom and a light green long-sleeved sweatshirt with three buttons up the front (not seen) and orated with dark green and brown leaf-shaped prints.

A manufacturer’s label says that the sweatshirt was made by High Cross and is size 107cm/42 inches, made of 67% cotton and 33% viscose and the dress is made by Monochrome®. There are hand-written cards pinned to each element of the outfit and they all say ‘Ella Enchanted’ and ‘Elf F12’s screenworn ensemble’.

Despite its production use, this outfit is in very good condition overall.
