Our expert's notes

A replica K-9, produced from original production moulds, used in book promotion in the late 1990s. Created from the original moulds for K-9 in the BBC workshops, the piece was used in the promotion of books written by the show’s assistant K-9 operator, Steven Cambden. The head is cast from the original smaller version, which was subsequently enlarged for use with the tickertape equipment on the show.
The piece is made of wood and fibreglass with plastic applique buttons and eye detailing. Fabricated metal ears and tail aerials are attacked at the front and rear, while a tartan collar and dog tag hang around the neck. Foam edging is fitted around the bottom to prevent damage or injury during display use, and the piece is built on wheels to allow it to roll easily. The piece is finished in a gunmetal grey finish with an aluminium paint finish for the “K-9” on the side.

Displaying minor wear from display use, the static piece remains in very good condition.
