A SFX dream canister from Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 1995 fantasy film The City of Lost Children.

A scientist kidnaps children to steal their dreams, in an effort to slow the aging process, and a carnival strongman called One (Ron Perlman) sets out to save them.

Dream canisters were used to capture the dreams of children captured by Krank (Daniel Emilfork), an evil scientist whose inability to dream causes accelerated aging.

Made of plastic with wood and metal dressing components, the dream canister has a brass paint finish. The middle section is white and black and the special effect ‘dreams’ would have been overlaid onto it. It can be turned however, revealing the ‘metal’ door on the other side.

There is a fair amount of wear from production use, including scuffs, scratches and chipped paintwork. Inside the canister there is some wiring, suggesting that it could be lit up during filming, although this has not been tested. Despite the wear, it remains in a good, production-used condition.
