A folding batarang used in the 2005 Christopher Nolan Batman prequel, Batman Begins. The Dark Knight can be seen equipping himself to take on the villains of Gotham City, and small pieces such as this are seen clearly being added to his high-tech kit.
Created from rubber in the iconic pointed bat shape that strikes fear into the hardened criminals, it is painted bronze and folds in the centre via two hinges and snaps together in the open position with the aid of two magnets. It is in a good but production used state, with some of the paint starting to rub away on the prominent edges. It comes presented in a great custom built display with an industrial dark frame and laser cut mount board featuring the movie title and stills. The prop measures 19cm (7.5”) tip to tip, the stunning opening display measures 49cm x 44cm (19.25“ x 17.25“).
