Our expert's notesA costume list used in the production of the 1989 comic-inspired action movie Batman. As the mayor calls for a cut in crime in advance of Gotham City's 200th anniversary celebrations, all eyes turn on the masked vigilante Batman (Michael Keaton), leading an undercover war against crime in the city. However, when Batman accidentally knocks mobster Jack Napier (Jack Nicholson) into a vat of chemical waste, he inadvertently creates a deadly threat to the city of Gotham – The Joker!
Used behind the scenes to catalogue costume use and ensure all costumes were complete on set, this check list would have been filled out for each day of filming, and features the three principle wearers of the Batsuit – Michael Keaton, star of the film, stunt double Sean McCabe and movement double Carl Newman – running along the top of the sheet.
Along with the list of items, featuring everything from the undersuit components to the cowl, belt and bat logo, the sheet includes fields to note the call sheet number of the day's filming, the location of filming and the date. There are twelve photocopied A4 pages in total, which are attached to the original clipboard used in filming.
Well used on the production, several of the sheets have creases and folds from use and time spent in storage, however the list remains in an otherwise good production-used condition. The list measures 39.5cm x 23cm x 5cm (15.5" x 9" x 2") when attached to the clipboard.
