A full-size Xenomorph Queen replica from the promotion of James Cameron's sci-fi action sequel Aliens. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) came face to face with the Queen while searching for Newt (Carrie Henn). The Queen then pursued them back to the USS Sulaco, where Ripley managed to blast her out of the airlock.
James Cameron and Stan Winston designed and created the original creature for the film. This particular model was commissioned by the film studio to promote the release of the Alien Trilogy VHS box set in 1993. Built at Pinewood Studios from the original production moulds, it was constructed by sculptor Bruce Hansing, who did the fibreglassing, alongside Dave Chagouri and Oscar®-winner Dave Elsey, who together performed the foam work. Chagouri worked on Aliens, and both he and Elsey worked on David Fincher's Alien³.
The model is one of four made in total. After being used to promote the VHS release, it was featured in the London Science Museum's "The Science of Aliens" tour. The museum made the display stand and base for the tour, and both have embedded lights to illuminate the creature, powered by a US 120V plug.
The model itself is predominantly made of fibreglass with a metal frame. The foam tail sweeps down from the back of the body and is held with a metal strut. The arms and hands are also made of foam. Six new spines have been added to the back to complete the display.
There is some wear from age and use, as well as scuffs and scratches to the paintwork, chips in the fibreglass, and small holes on some parts of the Queen. Part of the clear acrylic around the base has snapped off. Dimensions: 345 cm x 250 cm x 260 cm (135.75" x 98.5" x 102.25")
