Artwork of the USS Sulaco from James Cameron's Aliens, hand-illustrated and painted by artist John R. Mullaney. This lot comes directly from the renowned cutaways artist and technical illustrator, whose artwork was commissioned by 20th Century Studios for Free League Publishing's Alien: The Roleplaying Game in 2019. The artwork is rendered in pencil, watercolour, ink, and gouache on 300gsm watercolour paper mounted on foam board. Mullaney has signed and dated the artwork.
Working from a brief to depict the Sulaco in 2D-elevation form, Mullaney referenced behind-the-scenes photography (provided by 20th Century Studios and Alien archivist Willie Goldman) of the original miniature constructed by Pat McClung and John Lee at Pinewood Studios; as well the 2D artworks generated by Graham J. Langridge, creator of 2019 book Alien: The Blueprints.
This artwork originally appeared on pages 194-195 of Free League's publication, and will also appear in the forthcoming Evolved Edition of the game. Due to the nature of studio-licenced publishing protocols, this artwork cannot be reproduced for sale as a print, heightening its rarity. Dimensions: 25 cm x 71 cm (9.75" x 28")
Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Terms and Conditions.
Estimate: £5,000 - 10,000 M
