Artwork of the powerloader from James Cameron's Aliens, hand-illustrated and painted by artist John R. Mullaney. This lot comes directly from the renowned cutaways artist and technical illustrator, whose artwork was commissioned by 20th Century Studios and Insight Editions, and published in Alien: The Weyland-Yutani Report in 2015. The artwork is rendered in pencil, watercolour, ink, and gouache on 300gsm watercolour paper mounted on foam board. Mullaney has signed and dated the artwork.
This unique artwork was one of nine the artist created for the franchise. The initial pencil outline was based on a studio-supplied digital model, with the drawing's details meticulously honed for screen accuracy using stills and behind-the-scenes photographs of the full-size prop, which was designed and built by Doug Beswick's studio using concept art by Cameron himself.
Due to the nature of studio-licenced publishing protocols, this artwork cannot be reproduced for sale as a print, heightening its rarity. The painting was featured in Mullaney's 2025 London exhibition, Building Bigger Worlds. Of the 10 original Mullaney pieces licenced by 20th Century Studios for the book, nearly half are already in private collections. Dimensions: 53.5 cm x 76.5 cm (21" x 30")
Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Terms and Conditions.
Estimate: £6,000 - 12,000 M
