A Red Ako Clan Samurai Warrior Costume worn in Carl Rinsch's 2013 adaptation of the classic Japanese legend, 47 Ronin. In the film, a band of 47 warriors set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master, Lord Asano (Min Tanaka). Costumes of this style can be seen worn by a large group of Samurai warriors who arrive with Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano) in preparation for a duel in honor of Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa).
Worn by Lord Asano's Samurai warrior's, this complete costume consists of a kabuto helmet, rubber dô body armor with attached sode shoulder guards, fabric kote arm guards with metal chainmail and plating, haidate thigh armor, large kimono and obi, hakama pants, suneate shin guards, and tabi boots. The kabuto helmet is made from rubber thats has been intricately crafted with elegant designs. The helmet includes a shikoro neck guard with a simulated odoshi lacing that is cast into the rubber. The dô body armor, sode shoulder armor, haidate thigh armor, and suneate shin guards have all been cast from rubber and painted red and gold, the colors of the Asano clan. Worn under this is a kimono that is made from a silky cotton material which is bound with an obi sash. Made from the same material as the kimono are a pair of hakama pants. Also included are a pair of tabi boots that are bound in rope.
This costume features minor wear due to production use (see photos) and is missing the hakama pants, however it remains in otherwise very good worn condition.
