A collection of fragments from a Star Child puppet made for the production of Peter Hyams' 2010: The Year We Make Contact. During his investigation into the failure of the Discovery One's mission nine years prior, Dr. Heywood Floyd (Roy Scheider) encountered both an aged version of the ship's mission pilot, Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea), and the semi-corporeal fetal version known as the Star Child.

First introduced in Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Star Child - an energy being in the early stages of primordial evolution - was originally brought to life in Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of the novel using a fiberglass animatronic filmed with stop-motion photography. After production, Kubrick's team discarded the majority of the original molds and other production materials used to create the Star Child puppets, forcing the crew of 2010 to recreate the otherworldly baby from scratch.

The Star Child puppets created for 2010 by Richard Edlund's BOSS Film effects team were famously delicate, with plans to give the Child more expressivity than in Kubrick's film partially hampered during production. Ultimately, Edlund and his fellow VFX team heads received an Academy Award® nomination for Best Effects for their work.

This collection of fragments originates from Planet Hollywood. The fragments are constructed primarily of foam, with a rubber "skull" backing inside a head fragment and a mesh fabric lining its neck. In addition to the head and neck, also visible amongst these fragments are two Star Child ears, a left arm attached to a partial chest, and a right upper arm. The collection shows extensive evidence of wear consistent with handling and age, including cracking, crumbling, and splitting throughout.
