Dread Pirate Roberts’ Sword

It took 15 years for William Goldman’s novel “The Princess Bride – S. Morgenstern’s Classic Tale of True love and High Adventure” to be brought to the silver screen. It went through a long list of different studio’s, directors and endless re-writes before landing on the desk of Rob Reiner. He took an international cast to the English countryside and made a family classic. The film was well received and a modest success on its theatrical release but has since become a cult phenomenon on VHS and DVD.

This sword is that of our hero, Westley (Carey Elwes). A simple farm boy turned infamous pirate driven by true love to find his precious Buttercup (played by Robin Wright) who has been kidnapped by agents of evil Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon). It is best seen in the spectacular cliff top fencing dual with the Spaniard, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) “I am not left handed either”

The rapier sword was made by sword smith Alan Meek and is the hero steel bladed version seen for close up shots. It measures approximately 1 metre long and has a well worn, black leather grip. The ornate hand guard and silver pommel are chrome plated steel. You might want this handy if approached by a man who insists that you killed his father …
