Soldier cost a reported $75 million dollars to make yet was estimated to have taken just $15 million worldwide. The reviews and US box was so worrying for the distributors Warner Brothers, it went straight to home release in many parts of the world. The main character Sergeant Todd was played by Kurt Russell and he spoke just 79 words throughout the entire movie. It was written by David Peoples (based on an Outer Limits episode), who co-scripted Blade Runner. Soldier is considered part of the same “universe” as Blade Runner.

This is the spacesuit worn by Kurt Russell in the movie It is clear that much of the budget of the movie went into the quality of the costumes. The costume was designed by Erica Edell Phillips It is made from a heavy nylon material with the character name “Todd” and “American Forces” patch to the centre of the chest. The thick gloves are made from leather and the boots are the same fabric as the body of the suit. The shoulder guards and the panel detail to the front are made from aluminium. The helmet is made from fibreglass and connected to a de-misting fan housed in the backpack.

It is presented on a custom made light up display stand featuring the movie logo and is house in the “Spacesuit room” here at the Propstore of London.
